Privacy Policy

ReciNook ("ReciNook", "we", "us") makes an app for saving, organizing and planning recipes. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the ReciNook app and getrecinook.app, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

• Your cookbook, meal plans, grocery lists and preferences are private to you.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
• You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: your email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you create an account.
• Your content: recipes you save or write, including ingredients, steps, notes, photos you add, links to the original recipe and the creator's name; collections; meal plans; and grocery lists.
• Preferences: cooking goals, household size, dietary preferences, allergies and ingredients you want to avoid, and nutrition interests. Allergy and dietary information may be sensitive; we use it only to tailor your experience in ReciNook.
• Waitlist sign-ups: the email address you enter on getrecinook.app, used only to tell you when ReciNook launches.
• Messages to us: anything you send to support.

Information collected automatically

• Diagnostics: crash reports and error logs (such as device model, operating system version and app version) so we can fix problems.
• Subscription status: if you subscribe to Premium, Apple processes your payment. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, not your payment card details.

The app works in Local mode without an account. In Local mode your recipes are stored only on your device.

How we use information

• To provide ReciNook: storing and syncing your cookbook, building grocery lists, and planning meals.
• To import recipes from links you share with us, by fetching the public page or post you chose.
• To personalize recipes with PrepSmart when you ask it to. The recipe and the change you request are sent to our AI provider to generate a suggestion. Nutrition estimates are calculated from USDA FoodData Central.
• To keep ReciNook secure and working, and to respond to you.
• To email you about your account, and about ReciNook's launch if you joined the waitlist.

Service providers

We use trusted providers to run ReciNook. They process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service:

• Supabase: account sign-in, database, file storage and the website waitlist.
• Cloudflare: hosting getrecinook.app and forwarding email sent to our addresses.
• Apple and RevenueCat: payments and subscription management, when Premium is available.
• Sentry: crash and error reporting in the app.
• PrepSmart's AI provider: PrepSmart is not available yet. We will name this provider here before any recipe is sent to it.

We may also share information if required by law, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy would continue to apply.

Recipes from other creators

When you save a recipe from someone else's post or website, ReciNook keeps the creator's name and a link to the original. Saved recipes are visible only to you unless you choose to share them.

How long we keep information

We keep your account information and content for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account, recipes, collections, meal plans, grocery lists and photos from our systems within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records by law. Copies in backups are removed as those backups expire, within a further 30 days. Waitlist emails are deleted once launch emails have been sent, or sooner if you ask.

Your choices and rights

• Access and edit: view and change your recipes and preferences in the app.
• Delete: go to Profile → Delete account in the app, or contact us.
• Waitlist: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact us.
• Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, port or delete your information, or to object to certain uses. Contact us to make a request.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit, and access to each person's data is restricted at the database level so that only you can read it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Children

ReciNook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and let you know in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
